Stomach Stuff: Basic Info for Kids

What is the GI Tract? Well, “GI” stands for gastrointestinal, and “tract” can mean "a part of your body with a continuous system of many organs." Your GI tract can be divided up into two parts, with one being the “upper” part (which would include your mouth, esophagus, stomach, and the first part of the small intestine), and the other being the “lower” part (which would include the second part of your small intestine, large intestine, and anus).

So, this means that your GI tract may be a little bit more complicated than you may have thought before. It is much more than just your stomach, and can be much more than just one disorder/disease. Whatever you may be struggling with, we believe in you! Keep pushing through, educate yourself, be patient, listen to your medical team, and know you got this!

Just as a reminder, everything in your body is related, especially in your GI tract/digestive system, so lots of diseases can be similar or even have a domino effect on one another, and it is not abnormal to have more than one disorder. In addition, sometimes it may take a while for your medical team to narrow it down. So although your journey may be a little long, hopefully the resources shared on this website can maybe even make your journey that much easier!
